1684 Francesco Durante born - Italian (Neapolitan) composer (d.1755). 1732 Franz Joseph Haydn born - Austrian composer; one of the most prolific and prominent of the Classical period; often called the "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet" (d.1809). 1794 premiere of Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 100 "Military," in London on his 62nd birthday. 1841 premiere of Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1 "Spring," in Leipzig with Felix Mendelssohn conducting.
