11:00 CIM’S OFFBEAT with Merry Peckham - The Bringers of Jollity - TheJupiter Quartet was founded in 2001. They have won First prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award. The quartet chose its name because Jupiter was the most prominent planet in the night sky at the time of its formation, and the astrological symbol for Jupiter resembles the number four. This family of musicians takes pride in the quartet heritage and repertoire, while reaching for new frontiers in music making with the works of living composers.

The 2010-2011 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with Das Rheingold, the first opera in the Met’s new production of Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle. The cycle is directed by visionary storyteller Robert Lepage, whose career spans theater and film. On the podium is Met Principal Guest Conductor Fabio Luisi, stepping in for James Levine; he conducts his first performances of Wagner’s work at the Met this spring. The cast is led by Bryn Terfel as Wotan, lord of the gods; Stephanie Blythe as his jealous wife Fricka; and Eric Owens as the greedy Alberich.
