1:00 THE METROPOLITAN OPERA
The 2010-2011 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, starring Karita Mattila as Lisa and Vladimir Galouzine as Ghermann. Andris Nelsons conducts a cast that also includes two stars in Met role debuts: Peter Mattei as Yeletsky and Dolora Zajick as the old Countess, whose coveted secret for winning at cards is the core of the tragic love story. Tchaikovsky’s opera adapts a Pushkin story into a tale of thwarted romance and all-consuming obsession.
During intermission we’ll hear Backstage Interviews with some of the stars of The Queen of Spades.
