The 2010-2011 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Verdi’s Rigoletto. The revival, which stars Joseph Calleja, Nino Machaidze, and Giovanni Meoni, is conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni in his Met debut.
The cast is led by Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja as the Duke of Mantua, returning to the role of his 2006 Met debut. With this run, Georgian soprano Nino Machaidze, a major star in Europe, makes her Met debut in the demanding role of the jester’s daughter Gilda. In the title role as the vengeful court jester is Giovanni Meoni, who made an acclaimed debut as Ezio in Verdi’s Attila last season. Stefan Kocán is the assassin Sparafucile and Kirstin Chávez is his seductive sister Maddalena; both are singing their roles for the first time at the Met.
