1:00 THE METROPOLITAN OPERA
The 2010-2011 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. The revival, which commemorates the centennial of the opera’s 1910 world premiere at the Met, is conducted by Nicola Luisotti. This revival marks the first time the opera has been heard at the Met since 1993.
Deborah Voigt sings the title role of Minnie, the tough frontier woman who refuses to let horses, hangmen, or a high-stakes poker game stand in the way of true love. Marcello Giordani is Dick Johnson, the mysterious bandit who is the object of Minnie’s affection. Lucio Gallo sings the villainous town sheriff, Jack Rance.
The intermissions will include live backstage interviews with the cast, a “Puccini in New York” feature that highlights the composer’s trips to the Met and to the world premiere of La Fanciulla del West, and the popular Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera Quiz, hosted by soprano Susanna Phillips.
This performance will be transmitted into movie theaters throughout the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
