1:00 METROPOLITAN OPERA: It's a new production of Bizet’s Carmen, directed by renowned British director Richard Eyre and starring Elīna Garanča in the title role and Roberto Alagna as Don José. Acclaimed young Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin makes his Met network broadcast debut leading a cast that includes Barbara Frittoli as Micaëla and Mariusz Kwiecien as Escamillo. Intermission features include backstage interviews with the cast and a special segment featuring directors Luc Bondy, Patrice Chereau, and Bartlett Sher on the challenging— and sometimes controversial— work of staging a new production.
