2011 OMEA-WCLV HIGH SCHOOL ALL STARS 

 
 
WCLV and the Ohio Music Education Association are pleased to salute the following high school students in Districts IV and VII who have been recognized for excellence in music.  Each student receives a certificate and is acknowledged in on-air salutes over WCLV. 

CONGRATULATIONS to all our 2010 High School Instrumental and Vocal All Stars of Northeast Ohio! And kudos to their instructors and their schools for making music education a priority.

Michael Moyseenko, a Senior at Eastlake North High School, received a Superior Rating for vocal performance. He is a bass, and his instructor is Michel Carney.
 
Markie Anderle, soprano. Audrey is a Junior at Shaker Heights High School where Dr. Robert Schneider is Chairman of the Music Dept.
 
Next up is flutist, Michelle Penko, a Junior at Beaumont School. Dr. Lisa Pierce Litteral is Beaumont’s Director of Vocal Studies.
 
Ben Quallich plays alto saxophone. He is a Senior at Padua Franciscan High School and Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is the Instrumental Music Director at Padua.
 
Nick Buhrow is a Junior at North Ridgeville High School where he sings baritone.   William E. Davis III is North Ridgeville’s Vocal Music Instructor. 
 
Violinist, Iris Kleinman. A Junior at Brush High School, Iris’s instructor is Lydia Proniv.
 
Brandon Smith, baritone. Brandon is a Junior at Elyria High School, where the Choral Director is Dr. Mark Jessie.
 
Another baritone, Eric Moenlich is a Junior at Avon Lake High School William Zurkey is the Director of Choral Activities.
 
Will Legare, a Senior at Riverside High earned his Superior Rating for trombone performance. David Schwartz is the Director of Bands at Riverside. 
 
Soprano Shira Barron. Shira is a Senior at Beachwood High School where Carolyn Garley is the Vocal Director.
 
Keystone High School is mezzo soprano central, with four mezzos earning Superior Ratings this year; Seniors Stephanie Jackson and Theresa Cantu and Juniors Katie Greenhill and Elizabeth Mitchell. Alto Kalene Burns, a Keystone Senior also earned a Superior Rating. Jennifer Trakas is the Vocal Music Teacher at Keystone High. 
 
Jeremy Childers earned a Superior Rating for Trumpet performance. Jeremy is a Senior, and his instructor at Madison High School is Kristy May.
 
Ann Sasala is a Senior at Padua Franciscan High School. She plays clarinet and alto sax, and her instructor is Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi.
 
The only bassoonist among our All Stars this year, Christian Watson is a Senior at West Geauga High School where Jason Branch is the Band Director. 
 
Baritone Doug Lee is a Junior at Andrews Osborne Academy where Karen Clark is the Choral and Theater Program Director.
 
Maddi New, a Junior at Olmsted Falls High School, received her Superior Rating for oboe performance. Her instructor is Tim Strelau.
 
Two Madison High School Sopranos earned a Superior Rating for vocal performance; Angelina Huber and Cassie Kahr. Both are Juniors, and their instructor is Nicole Groah.
 
Let’s hear it for percussion All Star, Becky Zucker! Becky is a Senior at Orange High School. Her instructor is Dr. Craig Kepner.
 
Cara Sutherland is a Soprano and a Junior at Shaker Heights High School. Dr. Robert Schneider is Chairman of the Music Department there.
 
Brush High School is home to violist Ja’Vaughn Roberts. Ja’Vaughn is a Senior at Brush, where Lydia Proniv directs the orchestra.
 
A few North Ridgeville High School students excelled at more than one instrument this year. One of those students, Laurel Kennett, received Superior Ratings for both violin and vocal performance. Laurel is a Junior. William E. Davis III runs the program at North Ridgeville.
 
Dion McAllister, a Junior at Beaumont High School. Dion is a soprano. Dr. Lisa Pierce Litteral is Head of Music/Director of Vocal Studies.
 
Olivia Cotton, a Senior at Amherst Steele High School. Olivia is an alto, and her instructor, Mark Skladan is the Director of Choral Activities. 
 
One of only two 2011 All Stars who earned a Superior Rating for euphonium performance, Cierra Stanko is a Junior at Perry High School where Brad Hruska is the Band Director.
 
Violinist Chris Rojas is a Junior at Padua Franciscan High School, where Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is the instructor for instrumental music.  
 
Daniel Konyk, Junior at Avon Lake High School received a Superior Rating for violin performance. Dawn Kulikowski is the Orchestra Director at Avon Lake High.
   
Soprano Maria Nichta was recognized for her vocal performance. Maria is a Junior at Beaumont School, where Dr. Lisa Pierce Litteral is her instructor. 
 
Two Seniors at West Geauga High School received Superior Ratings for their performance on trombone; Patrick Burke and Nathan Huntsberger. Jason Branch is the Band Director at West Geauga. 
 
Madison High School Junior, Julia Kuhlman was recognized for outstanding performance on Alto Saxophone. Kristy May is Julia’s Band Director. 
 
J.D. Myers who sings bass/baritone, is a Junior at Midview High School, and Lisa Manning is his Choral Director.
 
Hayleigh Sanders plays French Horn at Olmsted Falls High School where Tim Strelau is her instructor. Hayleigh is a Junior.
 
Eastlake North High School has several talented Altos, two of whom are Seniors there. They are Grace Hackett and Jenna Sparks. Michael Carney is the Choir Director at Eastlake North.
 
Liz Daily is a Senior at Riverside High School where David Schwartz is the Director of Bands. Liz received her Superior Rating for oboe performance.
 
Another member of the Riverside High School Band’s woodwind section is one of today’s All Stars. Julia Snyderwine is a Junior and a clarinetist. 
 
Colin Dorey is a Junior at Brush High School where Lydia Proniv is his instructor. Colin is a violinist.
 
Baritone Aaron Hawk is a Senior at Elyria High School. Dr. Mark Jessie is Choral Director for Elyria High School and is Aaron’s instructor. 
 
Two other Seniors at Elyria High School received Superior Ratings for vocal performance; soprano Candyce Caruthers and alto Naudia Cruz. 
 
Here’s to trumpet player Kevin Telecky. Kevin is a Junior at Riverside High School where Daniel Schwartz is his instructor. 
 
Mandee Harvey, a Senior at North Ridgeville High School boasts a range wide enough to earn her two Superior Ratings in vocal performance, one for Soprano performance and the other for Mezzo Soprano. Her instructor is William E. Davis III.
  
        One of the few percussionists who achieved a Superior Rating this year, William 
        Kan is a Junior at Padua Franciscan High School.  He plays snare drum, and his
        instructor is Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi.
 
Several Avon Lake High School choir members received Superior Ratings for vocal performance. Among them are tenor Jonathan Warren, soprano Andrea Bestor and alto Alison Flint. All are Seniors this year.
 
Two other Avon Lake Seniors qualify as All Stars – Katie Rudnik and Celia Wright. Both are sopranos. William Zurkey is Director of Choral Activities. 
 
Sara Pekar is a Senior at Beaumont School. Dr. Lisa Pierce Litteral is Sara’s instructor. Sara was recognized for outstanding vocal performance. She is a mezzo-soprano. 
 
Jeanette Hagerty is also a mezzo. Jeanette hails from Elyria High School where she is a Junior. Dr. Mark Jessie is Choral Director.
 
We’re pleased to recognize our only 2011 All Star who plays String Bass. Danni Topalsky is Senior at Orange High School. Ms. Rebecca Ellsworth is Danni’s instructor.
 
Sound the trumpet! Thomas deHaas is a Senior at Perry High School and yes, he plays the trumpet. And he plays it well. Apparently, so does his sister, Heather deHaas who is a Junior at Perry. Both earned Superior Ratings. Brad Hruska is the Band Director at Perry.
 
Two Firelands High School Seniors earned Superior Ratings for vocal performance – Stephen Minnich and Kara Alcorn. Wendy Johnson is their instructor.
 
Liz Priore, a Senior at North Ridgeville High School won two Superior Ratings, one for piano performance and the other for vocal performance. Liz is a soprano. William E. Davis III teaches vocal music at North Ridgeville. 
 
Two Juniors at Eastlake North High School received the highest rating for vocal performance; Altos Kellie Sonntag and Jessica Yeagley. Michael Carney is the Choral Director at Eastlake North.
 
Two more Altos who deserve a salute for excellence in vocal performance are North Ridgeville High School Seniors Gretchen Heideloff and Haley Stever. William E. Davis III is their instructor.
 
Abby Thayer is a Senior at Riverside High, and she is one of only three trombonists in our list of All Stars this year. David Schwartz is Abby’s instructor. 
   
Here’s an All Star that is aptly named; David Stella. David sings Tenor, and he is a Junior at North Ridgeville High School where William E. Davis III is the instructor.
 
Also from North Ridgeville, Katherine King received a Superior Rating for vocal performance. Katherine sings soprano, and she is a Senior at North Ridgeville.
 
A couple more young ladies with high voice received the highest possible rating. Julie Bastulli and Erin Emek are both Juniors at Avon Lake High School. William Zurkey is Director of Choral Activities there. 
 
Moving from the highest voice to the lowest, we salute bass Joey Vahcic, a Junior at Eastlake North High School. The Choir Director at Eastlake North is Michael Carney. 
 
Another bass that earned a Superior Rating this year is Paul Inderrieden. Paul is a Junior at Elyria High School where he sings under the direction of Dr. Mark Jessie.
 
Director Kristy May’s student Jessika Barone excelled in clarinet performance. Jessika is a Junior at Madison High School.
 
Janel Dempsey is a Junior at Padua Franciscan High School. She earned a Superior Rating for French Horn performance. Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is Janel’s instructor. 
 
Kudos to Beachwood High School’s Mark Blackwell Mark is a Junior and a baritone. Carolyn Farley is Beachwood’s Vocal Director.
 
Violinists Chris Rojas and Lauren Giel have both received OMEA Superior Ratings. They are Juniors at Padua Franciscan High School where Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is the Instrumental Music Director.
 
Aleska Kaups, a Junior at Shaker Heights High School is recognized for her outstanding vocal performance. Aleska is a Soprano. Dr. Robert Schneider is the Chairman of the Shaker Heights Music Department.
 
Another soprano to win the highest possible rating is Kim Critchley form North Ridgeville High School. Kim is a Junior, and William E. Davis is her instructor.
 
Mark Capretta is a Junior at Riverside High School. Mark plays tenor saxophone, and his instructor is David Schwartz. 
 
Two altos from Elyria High School; Abby McClaine and Connie Wynn. Both are Juniors, and their Choral Director is Dr. Mark Jessie. 
 
We salute two more altos who are also Juniors. Nikki Ghaffari and Melanie D’Angelo hail from Avon Lake High School where William Zurkey is the Director of Choral Activities.
 
Shelby Marolla is a Senior at Padua Franciscan High School. She received a Superior Rating for flute performance. Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is Shelby’s instructor.
 
Eastlake North High School’s Jessica Yeagley is one of our All Stars. She sings soprano and is a Junior. Michael Carney is her Choral Director.
 
Also from Eastlake North High School, R. J. Marshall. R. J. is a Junior who plays trombone. Cindy Parker is his Band Director.
Stephanie Halle is a Junior at Padua Franciscan High School where she plays euphonium. Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is Stephanie’s instructor at Padua.
 
Firelands High School has several sopranos who received a Superior Rating for vocal performance this year. One of them is Junior Emily Teaman. Wendy Johnson is Emily’s instructor.
 
Kaley Bartolotta is also a Junior at Firelands High School this year. Kaley received the highest rating for alto performance. 
 
Another alto earning a Superior Rating is Paige Furlong, a Junior at Eastlake North High School. Michael Carney is Paige’s Choral Director.
 
J.C. Conley is a Junior at Elyria High School. J.C. received his Superior Rating for vocal performance.   He is a tenor, and Dr. Mark Jessie is his instructor.
 
Moving from a vocal tenor to tenor saxophone, we salute Joshua Korth, a Junior at Madison High School. Kristy May is his instructor. 
 
Next up - Wesley Watkins. Wesley is a Junior at Padua Franciscan High School where Mrs. Katy DeBlasi is the Instrumental Music Director.
 
Karen Ortega of Padua Franciscan High School is one of only two of our All Stars who is being recognized for outstanding piano performance. Karen is a Junior at Padua, and Mrs. Kathy DeBlasi is her instructor.
 
Sarah Kopp and Taylor Fuge are both Juniors at Firelands High School, they are both altos, and and they both received a Superior Rating for vocal performance. Wendy Johnson is their instructor at Firelands High. 
 
Riverside High School Senior Brian Simmons is our next All Star. Brian pays French Horn at Riverside where David Schwartz is the Director of Bands.
 
Casey Flowers hails from Elyria High School. A Junior, Casey is being recognized for outstanding violin performance. Dr. Mark Jessie is Casey’s instructor at Elyria.
  
Eastlake North High School’s Adam Piller is our final All Star today. Adam is a Senior at Eastlake North, and he sings tenor under the direction of Michael Carney.
