2009 CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION WALL-TO-WALL ON WCLV  

The 2009 Cleveland International
Piano Competition takes place
from July 28th through August 9th
at the Cleveland Play House and at
Severance Hall. And WCLV will be
there to bring you every note. WCLV's
Mark Satola, Nancy Sinning, and John
Simna will host the wall-to-wall live
broadcasts.



Rounds One, Two and Three take place at the Bolton Theatre of the Cleveland Playhouse.
Then on August  7th and 8th, the action moved to Severance Hall for the Final Concerto
Rounds with The Cleveland Orchestra and Jahja Ling.  

WCLV'S COVERAGE OF THE 2009 CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION IS MADE POSSIBLE BY JUDSON OF UNIVERSITY CIRCLE. SMART LIVING SINCE 1906.

At stake at CIPC 2009 is the richest list of prizes of any piano competition:

First Prize:  Cash award of
$50,000, presented by Mr.
and Mrs. A. Malachi
Mixon III;
New York recital debut at
Zankel Hall at Carnegies Hall; 
International compact disc
recording on the Naxos label;
Two years of management service
with Altman Artists; Worldwide
engagements for professional
fees (potential income
of approximately $100,000) 


Second Prize:
Cash award of $25,000

Third Prize: Cash award of $15,000,
presented by Mr. and Mrs. Richard A.
Manuel

Fourth Prize: Cash award of $10,000

Special Prizes

  • Baroque Prize: $2,000 for the best performance of a Baroque composition, presented by Art of Beauty, Inc.
  • Beethoven Prize:  $2,000 for the best performance of a work by Beethoven, presented by Barbara Evenchik in memory of Marvin Evenchik
  • Cairns Family American Prize:  $1,500 for the best performance of an American work composed after 1944, presented by the Cairns Family Foundation
  • Chopin Prize:  $2,000 for the best performance of a work by Chopin, presented in memory of Gertrude Lewis Frohring by the William O. and Gertrude Lewis Frohring Foundation
  • Contemporary Prize:  $1,500 for the best performance of a contemporary composition, presented by Art of Beauty, Inc.
  • Mozart Prize:  $1,500 for the best performance of a work by Mozart, presented by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Kaufman

Semi-Finalist Prizes

  • $2,000 to each of the four semi-finalists who does not advance to the final round

Additional Contestant Prizes

  • $1,000 to each contestant who completes the first two rounds without advancing
