A. GRACE LEE MIMS, HOST AND PRODUCER OF THE BLACK ARTS
A. Grace Lee Mims is the host and producer of the distinguished Black Arts program, Wednesdays at 10 PM.
A native of Snow Hill, Alabama, Grace is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. A soprano who specializes in the Negro spiritual, she has produced her own recording, Spirituals. She is on the voice faculty of The Cleveland Music School Settlement and has toured nationally with her family's jazz-folk ensemble, The Descendants of Mike and Phoebe.
Grace is a member of the boards of trustees of The Cleveland Institute of Music and the Rainey Institute of Music; is an honorary member of the Cleveland Museum of Art; and initiated and served annually as Chair of the Cleveland Hampton University Alumni Scholarship Benefit. In 1999 Cleveland State University awarded Grace an honorary Doctor of Music degree, and she was the winner of the 2011 Martha Joseph Award of the Cleveland Arts Prize. Grace also basks modestly in the glow of her nephew, Spike Lee.
