PROGRAM TO REMEMBER JOHN MACK

This Saturday, July 29th, at 1:00 PM, WCLV 104.9 will broadcast a special tribute to the late John Mack, retired principal oboist of The Cleveland Orchestra, who died on Sunday, July 23rd.
The station will re-broadcast an hour long show from the Cleveland Institute of Music's series "Offbeat". The program, originally broadcast in 2004, has Mack as guest. Host Merry Peckham discussed with Mr. Mack his days as a student, complete with humorous stories about his teacher, the renowned Marcel Tabuteau. Mr. Mack continued by speaking of his love for teaching, the elusive pursuit of making the perfect oboe reed, and of course, his time with the Cleveland Orchestra.
WCLV is also presenting recordings featuring Mack as soloist.
He was Principal Oboe of The Cleveland Orchestra for 36 years, the longest tenure for a principal oboe in the history of the Orchestra. He was also administrative chairman of Cleveland Institute of Music's woodwind division and head of the oboe department,
