CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA YOUTH ORCHESTRA MEMBERS REPORT FOR WCLV ON THEIR EUROPEAN ADVENTURE

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra is off on its first
European tour, June 13 -21, with concerts in Prague,
Vienna and Salzburg. And three members of the ensemble
will report back to Cleveland via WCLV on the concerts
and activities.
The Youth Orchestra will be conducted by its music director,
James Feddeck, who is also assistant conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra. The repertoire includes Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Elgar’s “Enigma” Variations, Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, and music from Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde, all pieces performed on the pre-tour concert at Severance Hall on June 9th, a concert broadcast live by WCLV.
In addition to concerts, tour activities for the Youth Orchestra members include guided historic sightseeing tours of Prague (including Karlstejn Castle and Terezin concentration camp), visits to the Vienna Musikverein and Vienna’s Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery, where many famous composers are buried, including Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and Johann Strauss Jr.), and stops at Mozart’s birthplace and the Mirabel Gardens in Salzburg.
