2011 JUBILATION - the STUART CHOIR FESTIVAL MAY 12 & 13

WCLV and the Cathedral of St.
John the Evangelist in downtown
Cleveland will present the
fourth annual Jubilation - the Stuart
Church Choir Festival, culminating in the
final rounds at the Cathedral
on May 12 and 13, 2011.

The annual choral festival has been
named in honor of the late Elizabeth
Stuart, who created and produced
the event. Liz died in December, 2010.

The six 2011 finalist choirs are:

  • Byzantine Singers of St. Nicholas Parish (Lorain) – Drew Marko, Director
  • Gesu Church Choir (University Heights) – Joseph Metzinger, Director
  • First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls Chancel Choir – Dean Wagner, Director
  • First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls Epworth Youth Choir – Dean Wagner, Director
  • St. Noel Chamber Singers (Willoughby Hills) – Agnieszka Bieniek, Director
  • St. Sebastian Parish Choir (Akron) - Lynn Frey-Steward, Director
  • Choirs will be judged on their technical ability, their musicality and their work as an ensemble. First prize will be $1,000 and trophy. The five runners-up will also receive cash awards of $500 each and plaques.

The six choirs will be asked to prepare a twenty minute programs each, which will then be adjudicated by a panel of distinguished judges. This year the judges will be Frank Bianchi, Director, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus; Mack Wilberg, Conductor, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir; and Ann Usher, Director, Cleveland Children's Chorus.

The final rounds will be broadcast live on WCLV before an audience from the Cathedral on May 12th and 13th at 8:00 pm each evening. The host for the broadcasts will be Lloyd Newell, the voice of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcasts.

Last year’s Festival winner was Akron’s Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Choir, Barbara MacGregor, Director.
