2011 JUBILATION - the STUART CHOIR FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED

WCLV and the Cathedral of St.
John the Evangelist in downtown
Cleveland will cooperate in the
fourth annual Jubilation - the Stuart
Church Choir Festival, culminating in the
final rounds at the Cathedral
on May 12 and 13, 2011.
The annual choral festival has been
named in honor of the late Elizabeth
Stuart, who created and produced
the event. Liz died in December, 2010.
WCLV President Robert Conrad says, “The mission of this Festival is to remind Northeast
Ohio of the beautiful and time-honored tradition of choral music in our houses of worship
and to further heighten the standard of music in the 21st century.” The goal is to
acknowledge excellence in choral singing and diversity in styles.”
Last year’s Festival winner was Akron’s Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Choir, Barbara MacGregor, Director.
Choirs will be judged on their technical ability, their musicality and their work as an ensemble. First prize will be $1,000 and trophy. The five runners-up will also receive cash awards of $500 each and plaques.
The preliminary rounds will be based on recorded submissions, and the deadline for receipt is March 25, 2011. Entries on tape or CD should be sent to WCLV, Idea Center, 1375 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44115. After preliminary judging, six (6) choirs will be chosen to go on to the final rounds. Notification will be made to those choirs chosen by April 1, 2011.
The six choirs will be asked to prepare a twenty minute programs each, which will then be adjudicated by a panel of distinguished judges. This year the judges will be Frank Bianchi, Director, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus; Mack Wilberg, Conductor, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir; and Ann Usher, Director, Cleveland Children's Chorus.
The final rounds will be broadcast live on WCLV before an audience from the Cathedral on May 12th and 13th at 8:00 pm each evening. The host for the broadcasts will be Lloyd Newell, the voice of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcasts.
